Welcome to Ashburton ESL. We provide free English conversation classes for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced students. We will assess the level of your ability in English and seek to provide appropriate classes.
Our aim is to help you improve your listening and speaking skills. Our classes can provide additional help to TESOL courses, offered by TAFE colleges or other institutions, by providing practice in developing your conversation skills.
We understand that students wish to study English for different reasons. You may need to improve your English for study, to get a job, or simply to make life in Australia easier. We will listen to you and seek to help you meet your goals. If you are preparing for an IELTS test we will try to help prepare you for the different assessment tasks.
Our classes cover reading comprehension, vocabulary, pronunciation, some grammar and everyday idioms, along with aspects of Australian culture.
Where possible we try to run separate classes for different ability levels in English or we have helpers in the class who will assist students of different levels of ability.

What to expect
Each class runs for approximately 2 hours.
During the first hour we cover ‘everyday’ English.
What to bring
Teaching materials are provided. You will simply need to bring a pen and a notebook.
You are also welcome to bring an electronic translator to help in learning unfamiliar words.
Any Cost?
No! Our classes are free of charge as they are provided by volunteers. Should you wish to make a coin donation to help cover the costs of refreshments that would be appreciated.
