ESL (English as a second language)
We provide classes across all levels from beginner through to advanced. This is an opportunity for us to show the love and compassion of Christ by helping those who need to improve their English for study, work, or simply to better manage daily life in Australia.
Our primary focus in on conversational English, but we also deal with some grammar, cultural events, etc. We seek to help students with their everyday English, but we also introduce the Bible as a tool for learning English.
Whilst the classes are small groups, we are also mindful of the needs of individual students.
Ashburton Youth Group is an engaging and interactive program for secondary-aged students who are wanting to learn about Jesus. We run every Friday night during the school term, 7:30pm-9:30pm.
We believe that scripture (The Bible) is the word of God and it is the best place for us to learn about God. So the priority in the youth group is to look deeper into the bible, and helping the students to read, think, and apply the message of the bible. Through the teachings of Jesus we aim to put our faith into actions, as it says in James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
Our aim is to make our time together eye-opening, meaningful, and enjoyable and would like to invite all who are curious about God to come and learn about Him through what the bible says and to know him personally.

We are in the process of setting up our Young Adults ministry. More information soon.
This ministry was started in response to the changing demographic profile in the community. Elderly Chinese migrants often have limited English proficiency and may suffer from isolation and loneliness. This group meets every Thursday from 10.30 am to 2 pm to enjoy varied and interesting activities.
The morning begins with praise exercise. Following this, the seniors enjoy morning tea and may listen to professional talks (such as fire safety, nutrition and homecare packages or gospel sharing) or learn crafts, etc. Special excursions to enjoy a meal together or to marvel at God’s wonderful creation are also part of the programme.
After a cooked lunch, provided by volunteers, the seniors can choose to join different interest groups such as the conversational English class or singing class. We praise and thank God for the opportunity to share Christ’s love with the seniors in their golden years and pray the gospel seed sown will bear fruit in His time.
Sunday School meets during the worship service. We aim to do more than simply keep kids entertained. They do Bible lessons in a way that is engaging and helps them to see the relevance for their lives. They will be involved in relevant games or craft and are also encouraged to learn memory verses.
